Hello DistancePreps Readers!
The 2013 track/field season has officially started and like all of you I am totally excited! Banner by Twangster | Photo Credit Danny Duncan So far this season my team has participated in three meets. The most recent was the Manatee High School Invite on March 8th, where I ran the 1600m and the 3200m. Sometimes I run a leg on the 4x800, but I did not at MHS Invite. My favorite event to run is the 1600!
My best time this season in the 1600 is 4:34:15, that I ran at MHS (a slight improvement over 4:34:51 from the RAM Invite the week before). However, I have yet to run my last season's PR in the 1600 race, 4:30. I did run a new PR in the 3200 at the Ram Invite, 9:56! I have been trying to run sub 10 since the begining of sophomore year. I was overwhelmed with joy to see the clock time as I was coming down the final 100m!
I took first in the 16 and 32 at the Ram Invite and was awarded a meet MVP trophy! I have never gotten a meet MVP recognition before, and honestly, I didn't know there was such a thing. Shoulda seen my face when they called my name. The trophy might have cost money but the look on my face was...(wait for it).... priceless. So, big "thank you!" to the Riverview Coaches and meet staff.
So yeah, the season has started out great, and I don't just mean for me.... We have seen a lot of our area runners coming back stronger and faster and already setting new PR's this season. It is energizing the field and an awesome start to the season!
If you read my blog posts (from XC season) you may remember me telling you about a sprained ankle that cut my track season short last year. My family, friends, and coach have made me promise not to catch, throw, jump, play, think about, or assosiate myself with any ball, in anyway.... at least till track season is over. I'm joking.....kind of.
But seriously, a goal of mine this season is to finish the season. Short term, I want to match and break my 1600 PR. Short term for the 3200, would be low 9:50s, and eventually lower! Good luck to all the Track and Field competitors! Hope you all have an outstanding season! Cannan.
